NJVN Accomplishment
04-03-20   The New Jersey Veterans Network and Backpacks For Life are working with our friends from SSVF (Catholic Charities). Our charities are providing disabled veterans and their families $4000 worth of food and emergency gift cards.

We also emptied our storage room and donated over 100 backpacks filled with toiletries and cleaning supplies! All the gift cards and backpacks will be distributed by the New Jersey Catholic Charities (SSVF) to disabled veterans and their families.

04-02-20   As part of New Jersey Veterans Network and Backpacks For Life “Feed A Hero” initiative, teammate Jamel Dobbins dropped off over twenty five pizzas to the residents and staff of Veterans Haven North (a disabled veteran shelter). All the pizzas were graciously donated by our sponsor Glendale Pizzeria & Ristorante. On behalf of the NJVN, we would like to thank both Glendale and Jamal for helping our veterans! Also, a special thanks to our outreach director,Doc Schupp, for running this program during these hard times!

04-01-20   Congrats to teammates Ken Haggerman and General Chrystal! The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Union County honored Ed Chrystal Jr. ‘2020 Irishman of the year’ and Ken Hagemann ‘2020 Military Service Honoree’. Both Ed and Ken serve NJ in law enforcement and serve in the U.S. military for this great country . Both are well deserving individuals, who continue to give back to our communities and have never stopped serving.

03-27-20   Today, Backpacks For Life and the New Jersey Veterans Network were able to purchase essential cleaning supplies for our homeless and disabled veterans at Veterans Haven North. Thank you Janice Coviello and family for dropping everything off

03-22-20   Once again, we teamed up with Backpacks For Life and started sending food to several disabled veteran homeless shelters and care facilities!

For the next few weeks we will be working with our amazing restaurant sponsors: Red White & Que Smokehouse The Red Cadillac Jim Dandy’s of Rutherford and Burnet BBQ ! Today, Outreach director Frank Doc Schupp picked up food from the Red White and Que and delivered it to our friends at the Operation Valor Veterans Shelter We are being extremely careful with this and using every precaution available! If anyone is interested with helping us please send us a private message!

Also, we are looking into delivering food to veterans and their families that are in need! However, for safety reasons we are still working on this ! 03-06-20   Combat wounded war veteran and Bloomfield Police Officer, Jeff Koeck, shared his courageous journey at the New Jersey State PBA Convention. Jeff was critical injured in Afghanistan and spent over a year and a half in the hospital. After being released from the hospital, Jeff fought hard to recover from physical injuries and manage his PTSD. Now he has dedicated his life to help others!

03-02-20   Our New Jersey Veterans Network group was excited to team up with our friends the NJ SOS Veteran Stakeholders group AJ Luna of Bergen County Veterans Services, David J Pearson of Catholic Charities, Scott W. Dadaian and our NJVN teammate Jamel Dobbins. Scott explained that the new Mission Act is an important new program which helps veterans get healthcare when they are distance challenged! Great job done by all. Afterwards Jamel and I gave them some of the new Backpacks For Life/NJVN backpacks!!!

02-28-20   We hosted our second annual “Feed the Heroes” at Mendham High School We had a 5 veteran panel consisting of Doc Schupp, Maryann Imroth, Sarah Bernal, Cliff Miller and Jeff Keock. They shared their military experiences and how each one of them overcame some major challenges. The audience asked amazing questions and really showed the utmost respect and honored all of the panel speakers throughout the presentation

The veterans, students and other guests sat together in the cafeteria for a huge celebration after the discussion! The veterans sat with students and were able to share their experiences as well. This event could not have been possible without the full support of the Mendham High student body, staff and administration!

On behalf of the New Jersey Veterans Network I would like to thank all of the Mendham High volunteers for putting this event together and the Mendham Boro Police Dept. and town council for always supporting our initiatives.

02-25-20   We joined up with our friends from Backpacks for life at the Rockaway Twp Town Hall Meeting. Both Brett Dalessandro and Alexa Jean shared their charity’s mission and we are so proud to be able to work with these incredible people! After we spoke, the entire governing body agreed to sponsor and support us with out veteran’s events.

02-16-20   Doc Schupp helped organize a NJVN Yoga Event at East Orange VA Hospital. The instructors included team member Jamel Dobbins. Satya and Rafaelina did a great job keeping everyone enthusiastic. Team member Robert Cullen not only handed out new and gently used sneaker donations to vets, but saved the day when a last minute emergency came up! 02-04-20   We hosted our second “Day of Beauty” for disabled female Veterans from Veterans Haven North! First, our veterans were given amazing makeovers at the Deore Salon in Scotch Plains by the owner Sonia and her incredible staff ! Then they honored for their service at Mendham High School ! At the school, the students had a great time learning about the life of a female veteran! The students gave the veterans manicures and everyone ate dinner together! The veterans were given gift baskets and an assortment of toiletries ! Finally, the students made cookies and desserts for all the residents from Veterans Haven North

01-19-20   Our NJVN team hosted another great event for Veterans! Our Outreach director Doc Schupp managed this great Veterans Salute event, where we we had a large number of Vets from local Veteran Shelters and hospitals. Veterans attending were privy to Free Business Attire, winter clothing, Job Counseling, Resume Assistance, a recruiter from the Department of Justice, two Veteran Authors and motivational speakers Wanda Smith and the Richard Kaufman Veteran-Keynote speaker-Comeback Coach,the Battlin’ Betties setting up their own closet with great stuff, a free raffle where Vets won amazing prizes from Veteran Wood Co. and Boots Up, an appearance from our favorite horse therapy team The Unbridled Heroes Project, a great meal from Reggio’s Pizza and even an appearance by Batman himself! NPD Ret. Det. Ortiz-BATMAN Thats a lot of great stuff for Veterans. Big thank you to Senator Joe Cryan for his support and coming to the event! An extra special thank you to all our great volunteers like Nora Tovar Miriam Gonzalez-Adams and Rose Pagan of A Hero’s Welcome – North Jersey and Dro Shkolah Jim Molinelli and our favorite National Guard Soldiers James Minogue Santiago Abril Jacqueline Rivera-Buie Nora for all your hard work helping Veterans to have a great event.

12-20-19   When we first started the charity, I was introduced to one of the toughest and baddest men I have ever met, Jeff Koeck! We had veterans from different places, including a veterans hospital and shelter. We had food and games and had a good time. We had some good vets there. 11-27-19   At Sayreville War Memorial High School, folks from TeamRWB Central NJ and the New Jersey Veterans Network teamed up to teach Colonel Jon Spare, his staff and the high school’s Air Force JROTC cadets the benefits of Rucking as a social fitness experience as well as perspective as to why Rucking is so important in our Military and Veterans communities. We also thanked them for their participation in our holiday food drive for the Red Cross food pantry at JBMDL. We presented the unit with an Air Force Branch Ruck Flag, made and donated by ICWU Local 271 in Parlin as well as 4 American Flags for their future Rucks donated by the New Jersey Veterans Network. It was a beautiful day for a Ruck and an awesome experience spending time with this group of amazing young people. Another great job done by our teammate Rob Bouthillette ! Help us save Vets!

11-20-19   We teamed up with our friends from Imagine Encore, for a “Hero Day of Beauty”! About 10 female veterans from Lyons Hospital were given haircuts, manicures, and provided extra large gift bags filled with beauty supplies and new clothing! It was an honor to be able to show our appreciation and immense gratitude to our female veterans and we cant wait to do this again!

11-14-19   Several months ago, my friend/teammate and Summit Police Officer Kathleen Maggiulli was contacted by “Be The Match” and asked to donate her white blood cells. They told her that they needed white cells with her markers for patients in a clinical trial. Her cells will have a component added to them, then given to the patients that match. The healthy cells will help organ donors and cancer patients fight off infections. We are so proud of her for putting others first without any hesitation! Frontline to Finish line!

11-13-19   Teammates Doc Schupp and Dro Shkolah visited our newest team member, Austin! Austin was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare medical condition called Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM)! Since Austin loves the military, a few of our veterans decided to put a military care package together for this 8 yr old hero! On Friday November 15th at the Hasbrouck Heights VFW Post 4591, there will be a fundraiser hosted in Austin’s honor. If interested, please contact Rose Pagan at 201-240-4440. At the ceremony, the Union JROTC Color Guard posted the colors. Congressman Tom Malinowski, Senator Joseph Cryan and Springfield Mayor Erica Kirschner DuBois spoke about the sacrifice and love of the country that our veterans share. My name is Kimberly Richardson. I was once homeless 2 yrs ago, then I obtained housing through a program called HudVash, which help Homeless Veterans get their own housing. I have been a resident of Plainsboro, NJ since 2/2019. I currently work temp jobs and the Vehicle which was donated to me will help me get back and forth to work. 6-13-19  On behalf of the New Jersey Veterans and Operation Rebound Racing Teams, I would like to thank Union High School and Police Officer Michael Lodguidice for having us speak to the senior class about the dangers of driving while under the influence and impaired. All of the kids were well engaged and listened intensely to the powerful message presented my friend and teammate, Sean McGuirk, who told his personal and tragic story of taking the life of a hero police officer while driving intoxicated. McGuirk explained in detail how he lives with the fact that he took the innocent life of not only a person, but a police officer who was out simply doing his job protecting others. An experience that caused and continues to cause unimaginable pain and loss to the officer’s family, due to his irresponsible actions. McGuirk concluded his amazing presentation by informing the Class of 2019 that he now mentors people who use drugs and or alcohol and hopes that he can prevent future tragedies from occurring by telling his story; a story that he wishes he hadn’t lived. Lastly, McGuirk informed his audience that he now leads a positive life through his sobriety as he focuses on participating in positive events such as ultra-races and Ironman competitions.

5-8-19  On behalf of the NJVN, I would like to say goodbye to our beloved teammate, SPC Anthony Steitz. Anthony was a beloved figure in the community and was committed to help countless people in need. Anthony was a true leader who always put others first! This young man was not only a role model but a hero to our country. We love the entire Steitz family and promise to always keep his amazing legacy alive! We already started the SPC Anthony Steitz scholarship and disabled veterans fund.

5-8-19  We had the privilege of speaking to numerous East Orange families at Newark Fire Captain/Councilmen Mustafa Bren’ts meet and greet! Our team spoke about how volunteers can help our disabled veterans and what resources are available to the community. Mrs Duffy spoke about losing her son after his return from fighting with the Marines in Afghanistan. It took a lot of courage to speak and Mrs Duffy explained how important it is to be there for a family in need during those initial days! Also, Mrs Duffy spoke about the importance of giving back by helping other families cope with the loss of a loved one!

Mustafa Brent is looking to build veteran housing in the city and help our veterans live a better way of life! Assemblywomen Britnee Timberlake also spoke at this meeting. She wants to meet with our team and pledged to help us grow in the state of New Jersey. 5-6-19   We fed and provided business suits for disabled veterans from Operation Valor, Lyons VA, and Veterans Haven North! The food was provided by Burnet BBQ and the suits were collected during our clothing drive!

4-19-19   NJVN team members, Union County Freeholder Sergio Granados and Union Police Officer Mike Loguidice, were invited to speak at the Union County Islamic Center! We spoke to the congregation about the Muslim community helping our disabled veterans and the county will do whatever they can to help our Muslim friends feel safe in the community. For over four years, this center and our team’s chaplain Dr Rasheed has helped our veterans live better lives!

NJVN has been working closely with friends at the Camp Patriot Veteran Ranch for the past 3 years. Camp Patriot is a non-profit organization which takes wounded American Veterans on outdoor adventures. We were able to send numerous, disabled NJ veterans! This camp recharges and motivates our veterans back into society. NJVN is thrilled to work with this amazing group and will continue to send our Jersey veterans there for this life changing experience!
